Visa Formalities
Other than Indian nationals, all visitors to Bhutan require a visa; all visas are issued from Thimphu . Visas are issued to tourist booked with a local licensed tour operator, directly or through a foreign travel agent. Visa clearance from Thimphu must be obtained before coming to Bhutan . Air tickets to Bhutan cannot be purchased without visa clearance. At your point of entry the visa will be stamped in your passport on payments of US$ 20, two passport photos will also be required. Visas are issued for the duration of the visit but extensions can be obtained in Thimphu at the cost of daily fees charges plus Nu. 510.
Route Permit
Indian tourists who plan to travel to places other than Thimphu, Phuentsholing, and Paro (free zone) will have to obtain a route permit from the immigration office Phuentsholing and Thimphu . Indian visitors to Bhutan require election-voting card for obtained route permit clearance.
Special Permit
Please remember that not all places are open for tourists. However, most of the places are made accessible to tourists but with a special permit. A special permit is required to enter any religious property. For this, tourists will have to contact the Department of Culture.
Entering Bhutan
Entry points into Bhutan are by road through Phuentsholing in south, or by air in Paro. Druk Air, the national airline is linked to four cities in four countries Bangkok , India , Nepal and Bangladesh . During the festival season, Druk Air arranges additional flights accordingly.
